Are you feeling called to do something new? Do you feel an inner nudge that just won’t go away – that’s pushing you to step out of your comfort zone?
For years, I felt a Divine inner nudge calling me to write a book, but the thought alone seemed overwhelming– How could I write a book? You need time and money for that, two things that were in very short supply for me as a caregiver for my elderly parents and a new business owner.
Even if I had the time and the money, the self-doubt would rise and ask, “would anybody even be interested in reading my book? And even if people were interested in reading it, did I even have what it takes?
Whenever I felt nudged to write a book, my mind flooded with worries and excuses disguised as “reasons” why it was not a good idea.
Has that ever happened to you? Have you felt a calling, but “rationality” has held you back?
Despite its growing intensity, I resisted my inner nudge for almost ten years until I finally couldn’t ignore it any longer. I called a trusted friend to seek advice, and the question he asked me, changed my life forever.
He said, “Sherri if you get to the end of your life and you have not written this book, how will you feel?”
Immediately my heart sank. I felt nauseous because I knew the answer. I would feel HUGE regret. I knew that I had to do this!
So, I decided to trust that inner knowing and commit to writing a book.
Making that choice was just the beginning of a long and winding road. I had to work up the courage to make some necessary but intimidating changes in my life.
After all, if you want to see different outcomes in your life, you have to make a change. Doing things the same way you have always done them will only result in more of the same.
So, I asked a friend to use her guest house so that I had uninterrupted time to write, and I had to ask my family to adjust their schedule to help take care of my parents so that I had free time throughout the week to write. I also hired a book coach and asked friends for angel investment money to self-publish. This scared me to death – but the inner pulling to write this book was bigger than the fear.
Writing my book was the most challenging adventure of my entire life. There were days that I broke down and thought I simply could not go on. But I did. In the end, all the blood, sweat, and tears paled in comparison to the overwhelming joy that I felt when I held a printed copy in my hands for the first time. It brought me to tears, and this time, they were the good kind.
This month, I am celebrating the 10th anniversary of publishing my book, Sexy and Sparkling After 40.
Writing that book was the most rewarding experience. Every step of the journey shaped me into the person I am today and laid the foundation for my business. The book proved pivotal for my career and enabled me to use my own painful life experiences to help thousands of women overcome similar circumstances and grow into their best and truest selves.
Here are a few key takeaways to help you achieve your dreams:
First, when you feel an inner nudge, trust that inexplicable knowing to set you on the right path.
Second, do not let obstacles or bumps in the road make you question if you are on the right path, the journey to achieving our dreams is rarely ever linear, direct, or easy.
Third, It is okay to be scared. It’s natural to experience fear as you reach the edges of your comfort zone. Feeling that fear and pushing through it brings immense rewards.
I encourage you to tune into the inner nudge or Divine whispers that have been calling to you. Ask yourself, “How will I feel if I get to the end of my life and I never followed that calling?” You will know exactly what you need to do
In love,
